Doing this bible study is the BEGINING of your new freedom in Christ. But there is a battle for our minds.  We are commanded to take every thought and make it obedient to Christ.  But figuring out how to do that can be difficult.  I found that Beth Moore had a little 5 point saying that helps me, I say it out loud everyday!  (It is from her book Believing God)

1.  God is who He says He is.

2.  God can do what He says He can do.

3.  I am who God says I am

4.  I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me.

5.  God's word is alive and active in me.

STEPS TO CONTINUED HEALING

       1.  Worship and Praise

      2.  Prayer

      3.  Renewed Mind

      4.  Comfort to Others

WORSHIP AND PRAISE

Once you know who you are in Christ and Who He is in you, then you can come boldly to the throne of God in worship and praise.  Worship is the attitude and praise is the action of your will.  You need to know more and more about God so that your worship (your attitude toward Him) can become more and more praise worthy and bring glory to Him.  Study the word “worship” and learn about what your attitude should be

WORSHIP

Old Testament Hebrew = (Strong’s 7812) Shachah, to bow, to stoop down before  someone as an act of submission or reverence.  To make oneself  low.

New Testament Greek = (Strong’s 4352) Proskuneo, a combination of two words that mean to kiss toward(like a dog licking his master’s hand), to  fawn or crouch, to prostrate in homage, do reverence, to adore.

Some extended meanings:

Fawn = To show affection, grovel.

Crouch = To bend or bow servilely.

Prostrate = To stretch out with face to the ground in adoration.

Homage = Honor, a ceremony by which a man acknowledges himself the vassal of a lord. (Vassal = a person under the protection of another for all their resources.)

Reverence = Profound adoring.

Adore = Honor as divine with reverent admiration and devotion.

1.  Who should we worship?     Matthew 4:10

2.  What position are the worshippers?     Psalm 99:4 and Revelation 4:10

3.  How do we worship God?     John 4:23-24

We are born of corruptible seed, therefore to worship and praise God is not our nature.  It is a choice of our will.  Our natural nature falls into the pattern of Lucifer, better known as Satan.  The study of Isaiah 14:12-14 reveals Satan’s pride and self-centeredness.

4.  Read Isaiah 14:12-14.  What is the fivefold character of Satan?

I I wil

I will

I will

I will

I will

5.  Read Isaiah 14:15-20.  What are the five responses from God?

You will

You will

You will

You will

You will

If you have problems with worship and praise, you may need to look for areas of pride and self-centeredness in your life.  These areas will keep you from worship and will also keep you from doing God’s will.

You need to worship, praise and serve the one who has the power over the universe, who has the power over Satan, the ONE AND ONLY TRUE GOD.  Set your will to do His will and worship Him for who He is, the I AM, the ALPHA and OMEGA, the FIRST and LAST.

PRAISE

The meaning of praise is extensive.  There are many different ways to express praise to God.  Some of the ways are as follows.  These are taken from Strong’s Concordance.

To revere or worship with extended hands.

A celebration of Thanksgiving for the harvest.

A laudation, a hymn, an extension of the hands.

To kneel, to bless God.

To strike with fingers (as playing an instrument) accompanied by the voice.

To address in a loud tone.

To celebrate God in song.

To give glory.

To applaud.

A story of praise about God.

To cause to shine, to make a show, to boast and thus to be clamorously foolish, to rave.

Praise brings life to our existence here on earth.  To not praise God means to not give Him glory for what He has done for us.  Just as there are many ways to express praise, there are many benefits of praise.

Study the following to find the benefits of praise.

Read II Chronicles 20

1.  What problem did the people have?

2.  Who did they seek for help?

3.  What did they do to win the battle (v. 22)?

4.  What was the benefit of praise?

More benefits…..

5.  Read Isaiah 61:3.  What is the benefit according to this scripture?

6.  Read Psalm 63:1-5.  What benefit do we receive from praise?

7.  Read Hebrews 13:15.  How often should we praise?  Is it always easy to praise?

8.  Read Acts 16:25-34.  Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns (praising God)             while in prison.  List six benefits from their praise.  (Maybe you will find more.)

1.  (v.26)

2. (v.26)

3.  (v.30)

4. (v.32)

5.  (v.33)

6. (v.34)

Praise often is a sacrifice that requires death to pride, fear, laziness, or anything that interferes with your worship of the Lord.  The basis of all your praise is the sacrifice of your Lord Jesus Christ.  It is by Him, in Him, to Him and for Him that you offer the sacrifice of praise to God.  You need to keep praise focused on Him, the one who made your salvation complete.  Shedding blood and giving His life, in love, for you to have life and forgiveness keeps praise a living sacrifice!

Maybe you need to practice praising God.  Do not be ashamed of not knowing how or of making a mistake.  Come as a child, just wanting Him and loving Him.

PRAYER

The Lord’s Prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13 is an outline for us to follow.  There are seven major topics, each representing a basic human need:

1.  (v.9) The Paternal Need

OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN

2.  (v.9) God’s Presence

HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME

3.  (v.10) God’s Priorities

YOUR KINGDOM COME, YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.

4.  (v.11) God’s Provision

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR   DAILY BREAD,

5.  (v.12) God’s Forgiveness

AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS, AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS.

6.  (v.13) Power Over Satan

DO NOT LEAD US INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM THE EVIL ONE,

7.  (v. 13) Divine Partnership

FOR YOURS IS THE KINGDOM AND THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOREVER, AMEN

There are many types of prayers but only one model prayer.  There are requests, supplications, intercession, petitions, entreaties, and utterances.  No matter what type of prayer the Lord calls us to, we must be honest with God and ourselves, never masking our true feelings.  Strive not for the perfect prayer, but for perfect honesty in prayer.  We must accept our humanness and our brokenness to be authentic before God, acknowledging our anger, fear, unbelief, and weariness to Him, who already knows the secrets of our hearts.  We also must not compare our prayer life with someone else’s.  This only leads to discouragement and distractions.  Be yourself.  God is not interested in how well you pray but if you pray.  Always keep in mind that prayer is a two-way conversation that helps us to develop an intimate relationship with the living God, talking to Him as a Father, listening to Him as a friend, and heeding His instruction as our Lord.

RENEWED MIND

The Bible says that before you became a child of God your mind was on the things of the flesh, thinking on things that felt good, tasted good, and looked good.  This was all that Eve was thinking about when she was tempted by Satan. (Gen. 3:6.)  When you were born again, your spirit was made new and now your mind has to be renewed.  Your spirit,

which is the part of you that communicates with God, will help you think the right things and, therefore, you will righteously control your actions.

1.  Read Romans 8:5-8

(v.5)  Living according to the flesh sets your mind on

Living according to the Spirit sets your mind on

(v.6)  The carnal (flesh) mind is

                The spiritual mind is                          and

(v.7)  The carnal mind is enmity against

      (v.8)  The flesh cannot please

2.  Read Ephesians 4:22-24

      (v.22)  Put off the

(v.23)  And be renewed in the spirit of your

(v.24)  Put on the                                                                which was created according

      to                                       in true                                       and

You have to watch what your mind thinks.  You have to be careful what your eyes look upon and what your ears hear because they feed the mind.  You have to choose spiritual things for your eyes and ears, then your mind will be renewed.

COMFORT TO OTHERS

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of

mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation that

we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort

with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”II Corinthians 1:3-4

Read the following scriptures and list the ways you are to minister to others.
